The Parinirvana Bed
An aspiration — yet to be initiated.
The Buddha’s Parinirvana—his final passing—stands as the ultimate teaching on impermanence. Even the Enlightened One, free from karma and delusion, surrendered his body to decay, underscoring that all conditioned things must end. It serves as a powerful reminder of impermanence, peace, and the freedom beyond clinging.
Envisioned as a place of reflection, the bed would invite us to contemplate the depth of letting go — the stillness at the heart of awakening.
The idea for this project was offered by Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche. It remains an aspiration for Lapis.
